"Listening to Jim Keller's music makes me feel like I have big plans, no worries and all of my hair." - Tom Waits
JIM KELLER, co-founder of rock band Tommy Tutone, and the co-writer of a song ingrained in the consciousness of a whole generation, is releasing his first album in over a decade, Sunshine In My Pocket. The new CD marks a natural evolution of Keller’s talent for writing indelible hooks and tunes, creating a sound that is impossible to date. For the 12 songs on the recording, Keller brings together an eclectic mix of friends, including The Holmes Brothers, Steve Goulding (The Rumour), Mark Ribot (Tom Waits), Mark Spencer (SunVolt), Byron Isaacs (Levon Helm), Glen Patshca (Ollabelle), and many others. Featuring Keller on electric and acoustic guitars, Sunshine was produced by Dave McNair (Los Lobos, Alejandro Escovedo) and Hector Castillo (Brazilian Girls, Roger Waters).
During a decade away from performing Keller has run the management and publishing companies of Philip Glass, whose encouragement led Keller to refine his pub rock aesthetic into the deeply personal sound heard on Sunshine In My Pocket.
Keller's passion for the songwriting craft and his roots in the pub rock tradition are evident in his humble beginnings: the bars, grange halls and road houses of Northern California, where he played to hippies, red necks and cowboys. Soon Keller broke out and emerged as part of the so-called new wave movement in San Francisco, together with Huey Lewis and the News, Mink DeVille, and Chris Isaak. After the release of Tommy Tutone's first LP in the 80's, he was touring with Tom Petty, ZZ Top and Graham Parker, among others.
